Frequently Asked Questions

Is DiscordPGP safe?

Yes. Messages are encrypted with standard OpenPGP (RSA-2048 + AES-256) before they leave your browser, and your private key is generated and stored locally. Nothing sensitive ever touches a server, ours or anyone else's.

Can Discord read my messages?

No. Discord's servers only ever see ciphertext: the scrambled text on the left side of the demo above. Only someone holding the matching private key can decrypt it. 🔐

Does my friend need the extension too?

Yes. Both of you install DiscordPGP and create a key once. After that it's invisible, you both just chat. 💬

Does it work in servers and group chats?

It works anywhere you can type a Discord message: DMs, group chats, and server channels. Anyone in the channel without your key simply sees ciphertext.

Is it free?
